    I can't seem to turn the comments on... Right now it just says: 'Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time'

    I'm not support. Just ran into a similiar issue. These are what my settings look like. If you look at their code in the following link, you'll see that it could be the post is too old for the rules you set etc. 

    For instance, you could have the checkbox checked where it says "Automatically close comments on articles older than [] days ".

    Go into the main newsroom folder, find the comments.php file and, on line 28, find and delete the following line:

    <p><?php esc_html_e('Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.', 'newsroom'); ?></p>
