I have purchased the theme Flow which includes license to Visual composer, but when I try to update the plugin (VC) in WP I reach a dead end saying, there is no license found. FAQ says:
"If you got Visual Composer by purchasing WordPress theme this does not grant you with a direct license for Visual Composer. In such case updates and support is managed by your WP theme author."
Visual Composer comes with our theme as bundled plugin via extended licence we have bought. More about it can be found in this article https://elated.ticksy.com/article/10866/ and also there is another useful link on Envato about bundled plugins in that article.
So, VC will work fine for you, without updating it, just ignore messages and warning about activation of it.
