Blog not showing content on main page

Another odd issue with the Allure theme - the text isn't showing in the main page blog article image snippet. The image is correct but it shows default latin holding text instead of the article text. When clicked, it does lead to the correct article with correct text. But the main page is just showing my images with the old latin holding text.

Why isn't it showing the article text as it's meant to?

I thought the front page was blog and this was formatted to show articles?

    Hello,

This is happening because Blog Lists and Blog Template shows only excerpts of the posts, and it seems that your posts have some predefined excerpt. You can change it in the back-end of each post in the excerpt field just under the Visual Composer https://www.screencast.com/t/Jgzxsa4QDcng . Just type there what you want to be displayed on the Blog List for the post's excerpt. If you do not have excerpt field under Visual Composer in the post back-end please while in the post's back-end go to Screen Options and check checkbox for Excerpts as shown in next screenshot https://www.screencast.com/t/cNqcVQZkCk .

Please let us know if this solved the issue and if there is anything else we can do for you.

    Thanks.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I don't want to input manual excerpt, I want it to just show the standard blog post excerpt as it normally would automatically.

I haven't changed any of the code or other information on the main page except for sidebar.

The main page has the default settings - blog, I believe? This should show post excerpts automatically, why is it not?

I don't understand why my 'posts have some predefined excerpt' when they should just auto-show the post text excerpts.
They're showing the correct title and image, just not the post text.

Looking forward to resolving ASAP. Bizarre issue and frankly a bit of a waste of time for all - what a strange thing not to be working.

    Hello there,

We have implemented excerpts fields since Blog Lists shows excerpt and if you add some content via Visual Composer, for example shordcodes, excerpt field can not read shortcodes and it will be displayed as code snippets. So, to solve such issue, we have implemented excerpt field for each Blog Post so if you are using some shortcodes like in this Post from our demo https://www.screencast.com/t/SNGEagcZM5bP in the blog list it will look like this https://www.screencast.com/t/ewbJ4ACh , and now you can go to back-end of that post, change excerpt with desired text https://www.screencast.com/t/m6JsTqWA and than on the front-end "normal text" (written in excerpt field) is displayed https://www.screencast.com/t/1TpqJ9YPD

We hope now is more clear why excerpt field is made separately, so you can manually add your text there.

Please let us know if this was more clear and if there is anything else we can do for you.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for explaining.

So if I want the post excerpt text to auto-show on the main page, how do I allow it to do that?

Do I need to set up a different template or page layout and not use blog?

Could you please lay out the options for having the post excerpt text show automatically as it usually does on most themes?

Reference image for the previous reply.

And is this what needs to be done to automatically show the excerpt?
(First 55 words of the post according to image attachment.)

Do I just put   the_excerpt()    into the manual excerpt field?
I don't know how to code. And frankly I'm really surprised this isn't an automatic option in the theme already?

    Hello there,

Yes that correct, excerpt does gets first 55 words of the post, which can be overridden so it can be set to different number of words, but please check this out. If you put some Visual Composer elements in the post content, so if you are building your post content using Visual Composer, not only text, you will have shortcodes parts like [vc row] [vc column] and similar show in excerpt since excerpt get first 55 words and it can not convert these code parts so it will look awful on your page. So to solve this issue we have implemented excerpt field so you can remove those code parts from your excerpt, so you just need to copy first 55 words of the post and paste it into excerpt field of the blog post, and we honestly think that this is not a big problem, to just copy desired post text in excerpt field for each post ( plus you get an option to paste there completely desired text not first 55 words so you are not limited in that way  )

We hope this is a little better explanation of how excerpt works in our theme.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

    Thanks.
