I have tried to add the search module in the "Header Top Bar Left Column" or "Header Top Bar Right Column" and it does not work. What could be the problem? Have you tried it in that area?

You can go to Elated Options >> Search >> and then set Search Type to Fullscreen.
That should do the job.
