Hello, thank you for helping with my other tickets! I have a question, my website is slow, I know I need to downsize some images, but there are also a LOT of other things that load slow, like css code etc. Can I do something to make my site faster? I allready have a cashing plugin. Many thanks in advance.

Hey Christina, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but I'm having the exact problem. Since changing to this theme (Academist), my website speed is ridiculously slow. Have you tried using Google PageSpeed Insights

Many of the speed issues I'm having are being caused by slow CSS files in this theme. See screenshot.

If Elated could look into this and tell us how to remove/optimize or deactivate some of these non-essential files, we would appreciate it.

Hi Helen, thank you for adding this, very appreciated!
I am starting my business and I can see people going to my site but the bounce rate is very high because of the slow loading, and it's very frustrating :( maybe there is a way to fix this.

    Hi there,

Here are some general tips for speeding up your website:

    a. Consider optimizing your images with some tool like this one:
    www.jpegmini.com

    b.  Also you can install some plugin for cache, like WP Fastest Cache or some other:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-fastest-cache/
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-super-cache/
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/w3-total-cache/
    c. Enable gzip compression on your server. You can read more about it here:
    http://www.feedthebot.com/pagespeed/enable-compression.html

But it comes down to pasting this code to .htaccess file located in your folder:

    <ifModule mod_gzip.c>mod_gzip_on Yes
    mod_gzip_dechunk Yes
    mod_gzip_item_include file .(html?|txt|css|js|php|pl)$
    mod_gzip_item_include handler ^cgi-script$
    mod_gzip_item_include mime ^text/.*
    mod_gzip_item_include mime ^application/x-javascript.*
    mod_gzip_item_exclude mime ^image/.*
    mod_gzip_item_exclude rspheader ^Content-Encoding:.*gzip.*
    </ifModule>

    d. Also check - Leverage browser caching:
    http://www.feedthebot.com/pagespeed/leverage-browser-caching.html

    e. Use at least PHP 5.6.x or greater in order to process PHP code faster.

Also, I can suggest you to use Gtmetrix to check your website speed. Also, I can recommend you to take a look at this article: https://wp-rocket.me/blog/the-truth-about-google-pagespeed-insights/ You can find here some useful information about page speed.  So first optimize your images and set this code in .httacces and enable some caching plugin.

    Best regards,

    Marie
