While editing your home page, go to Elated Post Slider With Thumbnails Settings by clicking the pencile button as you can see on the screenshot below.
There you go to Post Item tab, and try using the settings like they are on the following screenshot.
Set Image Size to custom, Image Width to 1200, and Image Height to 600. Save changes and publish the page.
If this doesn't solve your issue, please feel free to write back in, and if possible provide us your login credentials so we could take a closer look.

I'm trying to figure out where the padding on the bottom of the feature slider is coming from?
Do I need a larger image or can this be adjusted?

I do notice when I adjust those sizes the header does change but there is still a padding issue unless the image is a specific size.
Should I be using a specific image size with the 1200x600 header settings?
Also I notice a large padding issue on mobile as well?

For these settings, images would have to be at least 600px high, and 1200px wide.
You can try adjusting the settings so that you set height to 500px if you don't want to change the images, but it will shrink a slider for 100px.
Try this, and let me now if it helps.
Mobile padding is appearing from the same reason most likely.
