I see several template options regarding a page, but none seem to show a complete page outside the grid whenever I click on the corresponding menu button. Only if I refresh the page it does work. Is this perhaps an Ajax issue or did I do something wrong?
This is just how the Blog expanding tiles template works, when you set it as a template for you homepage. If you would like to show the whole pages when you click on them or on a menu you should just use some other template for you homepage http://screencast.com/t/Z7L8AHacIA0
Also there is one more option, you can link all of your menu items to open in a new tab. You should just navigate yourself to Appearance/Menus and in the top right part of the screen, under the screen options you need to check the Link target option http://screencast.com/t/zfQWBbP7eh0g After that, just access your desired menu item, and check the Open the link in a new tab option http://screencast.com/t/GSn7GwK6

Sorry for my late response. Due to vacation and several business engagements I wasn't at the office much.
I've made the changes you suggested for opening in a new tab/window, but it has no effect.
I like the way the tiles template works. But there are, as you mentioned yourself, options to choose a different template. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work very well. Whenever I choose Full Width, nothing changes to the page. However the page does change whenever you click on the menu button twice. I'd say this is strange behaviour. Don't you agree? It's like clicking on the Home button, the page slides down. That also makes no sense to me.
Please look at the attached file. That is how I would like this page to be shown. What settings need to be changed?

Seems like you have deleted our theme form your website so we're not able to inspect the issue you're having. Please let us know if you install our theme back.
